Christmas tree decorating?

Okay since i was a little kid me and my sister always make ornaments for the tree and we put them on there. so every year our tree looks like someone threw grabage on it. I really want to like get new ornaments like gold and red ones and have a traditional tree but my mother says that our tree has memories on it. how do i tell her it looks like grabage?
