On the way home from work I noticed a billboard sign that read, "Our Lady, Empress of all of the Americas"?

And there was a image of who I guess was supposed to be Mary, the mother of Jesus. As a christian I find this kind of offensive. That someone would elevate Mary to such a position as 'empress' of the Americas. Is this a new religion or Catholicism?
