If you were a god and you had a really important message to get across to people, how would you do it?

Think like a god, people. Would you find Bronze Age illiterates with dishonest reputations and inspire them to make up stories about you allegedly commanding them to kill their enemies? Would you then let a bunch of power hungry Romans collect a whole heap of legends and myths about a long dead savior and decide which ones were true and false? Would you then let this book be translated, edited, argued about and be the cause of war and bloodshed for centuries? Because this is apparently what the Christian god decided was the best method of getting his allegedly really important message to people.
